Canada, Manitoba Extends Work Permit Support Program

• Manitoba introduced a new temporary public policy allowing certain provincial nominee candidates who previously received Manitoba support letters to obtain extended work permit support through December 31, 2027.  

Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program 

The Government of Canada implemented the Manitoba Workforce Transition Bridge Temporary Public Policy, which allows the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) to extend support for certain foreign nationals who previously benefited from temporary public policies introduced in 2024 and 2025.  

Key Changes  

Under the new policy, Manitoba may continue issuing support letters through December 31, 2027, for eligible individuals who previously received Manitoba Support Letters under the now-expired 2024 or 2025 temporary public policies.  

The policy is intended to help eligible workers maintain authorization to work in Manitoba while pursuing nomination through the MPNP.  

Who Is Eligible? 

To qualify, individuals must: 

• Have received a Manitoba Support Letter under the 2024 or 2025 temporary public policies. 
• Hold or have previously held a work permit issued under those policies that has expired or will expire within 60 days. 
• Be employed full-time in Manitoba and have an ongoing job offer from their employer. 
• Have an active MPNP Expression of Interest profile. 
• Not yet received an MPNP nomination.  

Additional Details 

• Manitoba may issue up to 2,700 support letters under the new policy.  
• Eligible individuals may use the new support letter to apply for a Manitoba-specific open work permit.  
• Receipt of a work permit does not guarantee nomination through the MPNP.  
• Important Limitation 

The policy is not open to new applicants. Only individuals who previously received Manitoba Support Letters in 2024 or 2025 may benefit from the program.
