Canada Extends Ebola Travel Restrictions Through September 2026

• Canada extended Ebola-related health and entry measures for an additional 30 days, effective August 31, 2026.

Ebola Travel Restrictions

The government of Canada has extended its temporary Ebola border measures for an additional 30 days, with restrictions now remaining in effect through September 28, 2026. 

The measures are intended to reduce the risk of Ebola entering and spreading within Canada amid the ongoing outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and several neighboring countries. 

Travel and Entry Restrictions Remain in Place 

Under the extended measures, Canada will:

• Isolate at a medical facility any Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or other traveler who arrives from an affected area within the previous 21 days and exhibits Ebola symptoms.
• Continue to require health assessments and a 21-day quarantine for travelers arriving from affected areas who do not show symptoms.
• Prohibit foreign nationals who have visited the DRC within the previous 21 days from entering Canada.
• Prohibit airlines and private air operators from transporting these foreign nationals on direct or indirect flights to Canada.
• Continue to suspend immigration documents for residents of countries considered at high or very high risk for Ebola outbreaks, including the DRC, Uganda and South Sudan.
• Prevent individuals affected by the immigration document suspension from traveling to Canada, even if they previously obtained an approved visa, permit or electronic travel authorization (eTA).
