Denmark Work Permit Exemption for Event and Conference Staff

Key Point

  • Denmark implemented new rules allowing certain foreign nationals working at international events and conferences to perform short‑term work in the country without a residence and work permit

Short-Term Work Permit Exemptions

Denmark announced new exemption rules, effective 19 December 2025, that allow specific third-country nationals to work in Denmark for short periods without obtaining a residence and work permit.

The exemption applies to:

  • Event and conference staff who are permanent members of an international event team; and
  • Employees hired by a foreign organizer or subcontractor whose company is established outside Denmark.

The exemption supports:

  • Large‑scale international events
  • Conferences and trade fairs that enable key personnel to enter Denmark quickly for short‑term assignments.

However, the rule does not apply to staff typically provided by the event venue, such as:

  • Security guards
  • Cleaning staff
  • Waiters
  • Drivers

These workers must still obtain the appropriate work authorization before performing duties in Denmark.
