United Kingdom Expands Routes for Hong Kong BN(O) Citizens

Key Point

  • The United Kingdom introduced expanded safe and legal pathways for Hong Kong BN(O) citizens.

Routes for Hong Kong BN(O) Citizens

On 9 February 2026, the United Kingdom (U.K.) announced new measures to expand immigrant pathways for Hong Kong residents holding British National (Overseas) status.

These changes broaden eligibility under the BN(O) route and strengthen support for families seeking long‑term stability in the U.K. The government aims to ensure that families, including adult children, can remain together and access services that promote integration and long‑term residence.

What Changed?

The latest update extends eligibility to adult children of BN(O) status holders who were under 18 at the time of Hong Kong’s 1997 handover, allowing them to apply independently for the route. It also permits their parents and children to relocate with them through the BN(O) pathway.
