United Kingdom and Switzerland Conclude Enhanced Free Trade Agreement

Enhanced Free Trade Agreement Includes Mobility Measures
On July 13, 2026, the United Kingdom (U.K.) government announced the conclusion of an enhanced Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Switzerland.
The agreement introduces several provisions aimed at facilitating the movement of business travelers and service providers between the U.K. and Switzerland:
- U.K. services professionals will be able to provide services in Switzerland for up to 90 days per year without requiring a visa.
- U.K. companies will be able to transfer employees from U.K. offices to Swiss offices for up to five years without being subject to economic needs tests.
- U.K. businesses will be able to engage Swiss service suppliers for short-term assignments in the U.K. for up to three months through a dedicated visa-free route.
- The agreement includes measures intended to facilitate professional and graduate mobility between the two countries.
Swiss eGate Access for U.K. Nationals
Switzerland has announced plans to expand border automation access for U.K. travelers:
- U.K. nationals are expected to be able to use eGates for departures at Zurich Airport starting in late 2026.
- Switzerland is also working toward enabling eGate access for arrivals at Zurich, Geneva and Basel airports, with implementation timelines to be announced.
