United Arab Emirates Nafis Program Updates Extended to 2040 with Expanded Family Benefits
Key Point
- The UAE has extended the Nafis program to 2040, introducing enhanced salary support and expanded family benefits to strengthen Emirati workforce participation in the private sector.
Nafis Program Updates
On April 14, 2026, the Emirati Talent Competitiveness Council (ETCC) announced significant enhancements to the Nafis program following its extension through 2040.
Expansion of Child Allowance Scheme
- The UAE expanded the Child Allowance Scheme by removing the previous cap on the number of eligible children.
- The program now provides up to AED 3,000 per month per child for eligible Emirati families.
Broader Salary Support Eligibility
The Salary Support Scheme has been expanded to include:
- Children of Emirati mothers working in the private sector
- Wives of Emirati nationals employed in the private sector
Eligible individuals may receive up to AED 3,000 per month, depending on criteria such as salary and qualifications.
Standardized Minimum Salary Threshold
- A minimum salary of AED 6,000 is now required for eligibility across Nafis support schemes
This aligns with broader labor market policies aimed at ensuring financial stability for Emirati workers.
Updated Salary Support Levels
Maximum monthly salary support varies by education level:
- AED 6,000 (Bachelor’s degree)
- AED 5,000 (Diploma)
- AED 4,000 (Secondary education or below, with conditions)
These changes refine how financial assistance is distributed across workforce segments.
Implementation Timeline
- Effective date: September 2026 for new beneficiaries
- Existing beneficiaries will transition gradually over a period of up to three years
A phased adjustment will reduce current support amounts incrementally to align with the new framework.
Pension Contributions
- Nafis will continue covering pension contributions for Emiratis in the private sector
- Employers will begin contributing their share from September 2026
Flexible Support Framework
The updated program introduces a more inclusive and adaptive structure, considering:
- Family size and circumstances
- Academic qualifications
- Labor market demand
