Taiwan Urges Nationals to Postpone Travel to Uganda Following Entry Restrictions

  • Taiwan has urged its nationals to postpone tourism and business travel to Uganda following recent reports of Taiwanese travelers experiencing entry difficulties at Entebbe International Airport.

Taiwan Issues Travel Advisory for Uganda

Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced that several Taiwanese nationals recently encountered issues when entering Uganda, prompting the government to advise against nonessential travel to the country.

According to MOFA, three Taiwan nationals, including a business traveler and accompanying family members, had their passports withheld by immigration officials upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport on August 12, 2026. The travelers were eventually permitted to enter Uganda.

The incident followed another recent case in which two Taiwan nationals reportedly had their passports confiscated, with one individual subsequently deported.

What Travelers Need to Know

While Uganda has not officially announced changes to its visa or entry requirements for Taiwan passport holders, MOFA stated that recent incidents indicate that travelers could face difficulties upon arrival.

As a result, Taiwan is encouraging nationals to:

  • Postpone nonessential tourism and business travel to Uganda.
  • Carefully assess the risks of planned travel.
  • Remain vigilant while in Uganda.
  • Stay in contact with Taiwan’s representative office for assistance if needed.

Looking Ahead

MOFA stated that it will continue to monitor the situation and engage with Ugandan authorities regarding the reported entry restrictions. Travelers and employers should monitor official updates and assess the potential impact on future travel plans.
