Norway Restructures Diplomatic Network with New Qatar Embassy and Planned Malawi Closure

• Norway has announced changes to its global diplomatic footprint, including plans to open a new embassy in Qatar and close the embassy in Malawi as part of a broader review of the country’s foreign service operations.  

New Qatar Embassy and Planned Malawi Closure 

The Government of Norway has unveiled a series of diplomatic network changes following a review of the country’s foreign service priorities.  

The government will establish a new embassy in Doha, Qatar. 

Officials will also close the embassy in Malawi, citing evolving foreign policy, security and resource-allocation considerations. evolving foreign policy, security and resource-allocation considerations.  

 While the diplomatic mission will close, Norway indicated that development assistance delivered through multilateral organizations will continue. The embassy is expected to cease operations by the end of July 2027.
