Iceland Announces New Residence Permit Card Pickup Location

Key Point

  • Iceland announced a new option for collecting residence permit cards at a 24/7 retail location in Reykjavík, expanding access and convenience for foreign nationals.

Cards Now Available for Pickup at Hagkaup Skeifan

Iceland introduced a new collection point for residence permit cards at Hagkaup in Skeifan, Reykjavík. The partnership allows eligible foreign nationals to collect their residence permit cards 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing significantly expanded access beyond standard government office hours.

Foreign nationals may collect their card at Hagkaup only if:

  • Their photo for the residence permit card was taken at the Directorate of Immigration, and
  • They do not currently hold a valid residence permit card.

UDI states that individuals must collect their card within seven days of receiving the pickup notification. If they do not collect it within this timeframe, UDI will transfer the card back to the Directorate of Immigration at Dalvegur 18.

Applicants must collect their own card, as well as the cards of any children in their custody. Authorities do not permit authorizations or third‑party pickups. Individuals must collect their card from the District Commissioner’s office.

Individuals pick up their cards at the District Commissioner’s office where staff took their original photo. They may only pick it up at Hagkaup if they submitted a redirect request before the card was produced.
