Denmark: Work Permit Exemption Eligibility

• Denmark will introduce changes to its new exemption eligibility requirements for foreign nationals from countries located outside of the European Union  

Overview  

The government of Denmark will introduce changes to its new exemption eligibility requirements for foreign nationals from countries located outside of the European Union (EU) beginning 17 November 2023. As a result, these individuals will be permitted to work in Denmark without a work permit for two separate 15-day periods within any 180-day period.  

Qualified individuals must be employed by an intra-group company located outside of Denmark with an affiliated entity registered in Denmark. In addition, the company must have at least 50 employees. Eligible foreign nationals must leave the country for a period of at least 14 days in between stays. Some limitations will apply to foreign nationals working in the following industries:  

• Construction 
• Agriculture, forestry and horticulture 
• Cleaning 
• Hotels and restaurants 
• Road freight transport 

What are the Changes?  

The government of Denmark updated its policy for exemption from the requirement of a work permit. According to the government announcement, these changes aim to attract further business to the country.
