Belgium, Flanders Introduces New Fee for Single Permit Applications

  • Starting September 1, 2026, employers in Flanders must pay a new €180 regional processing fee for each combined (single) permit application they submit.

Single Permit Application Fee

The Flemish government has announced a new regional processing fee for single permit applications. Beginning September 1, 2026, employers will be required to pay a €180 fee for each combined permit (single permit) application submitted in Flanders.

The fee:

  • Applies to initial single permit applications.
  • Applies to renewal applications.
  • Does not apply to standalone work permit applications.
  • Covers the administrative costs associated with the Flemish government’s review of the work authorization component of the application.

Additional Government Fees Will Apply

The new Flemish fee does not replace existing immigration charges.

Employers submitting a single permit application will now be responsible for:

  • The new €180 Flemish regional fee for the work authorization review, and
  • The existing federal fee applies to the residence permit portion of the application.

As a result, applicants and employers should anticipate two separate government fees for most single permit cases.

Payment Requirements

Applicants must pay the fee through the Uniek Loket (One-Stop Shop Portal) when they file the application. If they do not complete payment:

  • Authorities will not process the application.
  • Authorities will not start the processing timeline.
  • Authorities may ultimately close the application without further action if the applicant fails to make payment within the prescribed period.

The Flemish government has also confirmed that it will index the fee annually beginning January 1, 2027, and round it up to the nearest euro.
