U.S. Consular Services in Brazil Suspended Due to Security Concerns

  • The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Brazil have suspended consular services beginning October 2, 2026, due to security concerns, with only emergency assistance available for U.S. citizens. 

U.S. Consular Services Suspended Across Brazil 

The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Brazil announced that consular services will be suspended starting October 2, 2026, citing security concerns. During the suspension, individuals should not visit U.S. diplomatic facilities for routine consular appointments or assistance.  

What Employers and Foreign Nationals Should Know 

  • Consular services at the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Brazil are suspended until further notice.  
  • Visa applicants may experience appointment cancellations, processing delays and disruptions to planned travel.  
  • Individuals with upcoming visa interviews or other consular appointments should monitor official U.S. government communications for further guidance and rescheduling information. 

Emergency Assistance Remains Available for U.S. Citizens 

The U.S. government stated that U.S. citizens requiring emergency assistance should not travel directly to embassy or consulate facilities. Instead, they should contact the appropriate duty officer using the emergency contact information provided by the mission.
