Qatar Amends Wage Protection System Payment Requirements

  • Qatar amended its Wage Protection System (WPS) rules, requiring employers to transfer monthly and annual wage payments within seven days of their due date and clarifying wage payment schedules for covered workers.

Wage Protection System Payment Requirements

Qatar has issued Ministerial Decision No. 50 of 2026, amending certain provisions of Ministerial Decision No. 4 of 2015, which governs the Wage Protection System (WPS) for workers subject to the Labor Law.

The changes take effect the day after publication in the Official Gazette.

Under the amended provisions:

  • Employers must transfer the wages of workers paid on a monthly or annual basis to the worker’s account at a financial institution in Qatar through the Wage Protection System (WPS) within seven days of the wage due date.
  • Wages for monthly paid workers are deemed due on the first day of each calendar month.
  • Wages for other workers are deemed due on the first day of every two-week period.

The decision also updates references in the 2015 regulation from the former Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs to the Ministry of Labour.
