New Zealand Family Visa Applications Move to Enhanced Immigration Online in November 2026

  • Immigration New Zealand will move several family-based temporary visa categories to its enhanced Immigration Online platform beginning Nov. 16, 2026 and introduce related updates to visa instructions and eligibility requirements.

Family Visa Applications Moved Online

Beginning Nov. 16, 2026, family members of New Zealand citizens and residents applying for certain visitor, work and student visas will be able to submit applications through Immigration New Zealand’s enhanced Immigration Online platform.

The transition is part of the government’s broader effort to modernize immigration services and streamline the visa application process.

Which Visa Categories Are Affected?

The following visa categories will move to the enhanced online system:

  • Child of a New Zealander Visitor Visa
  • Partner of a New Zealander Visitor Visa

  • Child of a New Zealander Student Visa

Following the transition, the enhanced Immigration Online platform will become the preferred method for submitting new applications for these visa types.

  • Dynamic application forms tailored to an applicant’s circumstances

  • Digital passport uploads with automatic population of passport information
  • Increased self-service capabilities and improved application status updates

Additional Immigration Policy Updates

As part of the transition, Immigration New Zealand will also implement several updates to immigration instructions effective Nov. 16, 2026, including:

  • Extending the maximum visitor visa duration from nine months to 12 months for children of New Zealand citizens and residents
  • Allowing eligible children with domestic student status to apply for a Child of a New Zealander Student Visa
