India Suspends Consular, Passport and Visa Services in Australia Until Further Notice

Key Point

  • India has temporarily suspended consular, passport and visa (CPV) services across Australia, effective July 1, 2026, with no announced date for resumption.

India Passport and Visa Services in Australia

The High Commission of India in Canberra has directed the temporary suspension of all Consular, Passport and Visa (CPV) services in Australia.

According to information published by VFS Global, the suspension took effect on July 1, 2026, and will remain in place until further notice.

What Is Affected?

The suspension impacts Indian government services processed through VFS Global’s India Consular Application Centres (ICACs) in Australia, including:

  • Visa services
  • Passport services
  • Consular services

Applicants will be unable to submit or complete new CPV applications while the suspension remains in effect.

Impact on Pending Applications

Applications that are currently being processed will remain pending until services are reinstated. Authorities have advised affected individuals to await further instructions and updates.

Passport Collections Continue

Despite the suspension, VFS Global will continue to return passports that are already ready for collection to applicants through its existing passport return procedures.

Emergency Assistance

Individuals requiring urgent consular assistance should contact the High Commission of India or the relevant Consulate General in Australia directly for support.

Looking Ahead

No timeline has been provided for the restoration of services. Applicants should monitor announcements from the High Commission of India in Canberra, the Consulates General of India in Australia and VFS Global for further developments.
