Chile Launches Digital Work Authorization Certificate

• On August 14, 2026, Chile’s National Migration Service (SERMIG) introduced a new digital Work Authorization (Habilitación Laboral) process tool for foreign naitonals seeking employment in Chile.

Chile’s National Migration Service (Servicio Nacional de Migraciones, SERMIG) has announced the launch of a new digital Work Authorization (Habilitación Laboral) Certificate, which aims to allow for quick verification of allowable paid activities in the country.  

The certificate is available free of charge through SERMIG’s Digital Procedures Portal and includes a QR code that can be used to validate the document’s authenticity and current status.  

According to SERMIG, the new tool aims to provide greater certainty regarding a foreign national’s right to engage in remunerated activities in Chile while supporting compliance with the country’s immigration and employment regulations.  

How the Process Works 

Foreign nationals can access the certificate by logging into SERMIG’s Digital Procedures Portal and selecting the “Consultation of Work Authorization” option.  

Chile’s new system automatically verifies eligibility and generates a work authorization certificate, which applicants can download, share with employers and receive by email.
