USCIS Expands International Operations with New Ethiopia Office
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced it is opening a new international field office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The office will begin operations on September 9, 2026, and will handle USCIS immigration matters in Ethiopia.
What the Addis Ababa Field Office Will Do
According to USCIS, staff at the Addis Ababa office will:
- Verify the authenticity of foreign documents
- Investigate suspected issues related to immigration cases
- Collect DNA evidence to confirm family relationships when required
Historically, these functions have been supported through coordination with the U.S. Department of State. The new office will provide USCIS with a dedicated presence in Ethiopia to perform these activities directly.
Part of USCIS’ Broader Overseas Operations Strategy
USCIS stated that the new field office supports its broader efforts to align overseas operations with agency priorities and strengthen its international operational capacity. The Addis Ababa location adds to USCIS’ overseas network and provides an on-the-ground presence to support immigration case processing activities in Ethiopia.
Appointment Information
Services at the Addis Ababa field office will be available by appointment only. USCIS will update its International Immigration Offices webpage with additional information about the office, available services, and appointment procedures.
