Sweden Increases Minimum Wage for Labor Immigration

Key Point

  • Sweden announced a new minimum wage requirement for labor immigration and plans to introduce stricter conditions for family member immigration.

Minimum Wage Requirements 2026

Sweden will raise the minimum salary threshold for labor immigration to 90% of the national median wage, equivalent to SEK 33,390 per month, under a new agreement between the Government and the Sweden Democrats.

The reform also includes plans to introduce stricter requirements for family-member immigration and to launch an inquiry into abuses within the labor migration system.

The government says these changes strengthen worker protections, reduce exploitation and ensure that labour immigration supports Sweden’s long‑term skills needs.
