Sweden to Transfer China Migration Operations from Shanghai to Beijing

  • Sweden will gradually transfer all migration operations in China from its Consulate General in Shanghai to its Embassy in Beijing and plans to complete the transition by Jan. 1, 2027.

Swedish Embassy in China 

The Swedish Migration Agency has announced that migration operations currently handled by the Consulate General in Shanghai will be transferred to the Embassy in Beijing. The transition will occur in phases and is expected to be completed by Jan. 1, 2027.  

Key Dates 

  • Oct. 1, 2026: The Embassy in Beijing will assume responsibility for processing visa applications from the three Visa Application Centres (VACs) currently served by the Shanghai consulate. The Shanghai consulate will stop accepting visa applications on this date.  
  • Nov. 1, 2026: The Beijing embassy will take over interviews, investigations and other migration-related appointments for individuals residing in China. Supporting migration documents should also be sent to the Beijing embassy beginning on this date.  
  • Jan. 1, 2027: The Beijing embassy will become the sole location handling Swedish migration matters in China. Migration cases will no longer be processed by the Shanghai consulate.
