Sweden: Changes to the EU Blue Card Policy

  • Sweden plans to introduce changes to its EU Blue Card policy beginning 18 November 2023 

Overview  

The government of Sweden introduced new requirements under its EU Blue card policy. These changes are expected to enter into force on 18 November 2023. These new measures include: 

  • Highly skilled foreign nationals who hold an employment contract for a period of six months will now be permitted to apply for the authorization.  
  • More flexibility when it comes to converting to an EU Blue Card from another work authorization type.  
  • Holders of an EU Blue Card granted by another European Union (EU) member state will be permitted to enter Sweden to conduct business for a maximum period of 90 days within any 180-day period.

What are the Changes?  

The government of Sweden plans to introduce changes to its EU Blue Card policy beginning 18 November 2023. According to the government, these measures aim to simplify the application process to encourage further migration to Sweden.
