Saudi Arabia Introduces ETA for United Kingdom Citizens

Key Point

  • Saudi Arabia launches a new Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for U.K. citizens, enabling multi-entry travel and extended stays for short-term visits starting July 1, 2026

ETA for U.K. Citizens

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) announced the introduction of a new Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for United Kingdom (U.K.) citizens, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing global mobility and strengthening bilateral relations with the U.K.

The initiative reflects a reciprocal arrangement between the two countries, building on existing travel facilitation frameworks that the U.K. has already extended to Saudi nationals. The move aligns with broader efforts by KSA to modernize its immigration system and support international business, tourism, and knowledge exchange.

What the New ETA Means

The ETA introduces a more streamlined entry option for U.K. travelers, allowing for:

  • Multiple entries over a 12-month period
  • Stays of up to 180 days total, either continuously or across multiple trips
  • Travel for a range of permitted activities, including:
    • Tourism
    • Short-term study
    • Business visits

This shift represents a notable step toward digitized, flexible entry processes, reducing reliance on traditional visa pathways for short-term travel.

Scope and Limitations

While the ETA expands access for U.K. citizens, it remains a short-term travel authorization.

The ETA does not permit:

  • Employment in KSA
  • Long-term residence
  • Participation in Hajj under this authorization

Travelers planning activities outside the permitted scope must continue to obtain the appropriate visa category in line with Saudi immigration regulations.

Effective Date and Eligibility

  • The ETA will come into effect on July 1, 2026
  • It will be available to all U.K. passport holders, regardless of passport type

This broad eligibility is expected to increase travel accessibility, particularly for business travelers and frequent visitors.
