Media Alert: Trump Administration Suspends PERM Processing for Select Technology and IT Companies

  • Media reports indicate the Trump administration has suspended PERM labor certification processing for several technology and IT services companies while federal investigations into alleged fraud and compliance concerns proceed.

Administration Suspends PERM Processing for Select Technology and IT Companies

According to media reports, including Bloomberg, CNBC and others, the Trump administration has suspended PERM labor certification processing for select technology and IT services companies while federal investigations into alleged fraud and compliance concerns are underway.

The announcement was made by Vice President JD Vance and Labor Secretary Keith Sonderlig during a press conference on Oct. 8, 2026. According to administration officials, the U.S. Department of Labor will not accept new PERM applications or continue processing pending PERM cases filed by the affected companies while investigations are underway.

Potential Impact on Employers and Foreign Nationals

While details remain limited, the suspension could have significant consequences for affected employers and sponsored employees.

Reportedly, the Department of Labor will stop accepting new PERM filings and suspend processing of pending cases involving the named companies. However, it remains unclear whether already approved labor certifications or immigrant petitions will be affected. Administration officials have not yet provided guidance on the duration of the suspension or the process for reinstatement.

The announcement is likely to create uncertainty for foreign nationals pursuing employment-based permanent residence through impacted employers, particularly those currently awaiting PERM adjudications or preparing to begin the green card sponsorship process.

Looking Ahead

As of Oct. 8, 2026, the administration has not formally announced the reported initiative or released detailed implementation guidance. Media reports indicate additional information could emerge in the coming weeks.
