Malta Introduces Mandatory Automated Health Screening System for Work Permit Applications

Key Point

  • Malta announced a mandatory change to the health screening process for all work permit applications.

Mandatory Automated Health Screening System

Malta announced that beginning May 4, 2026, all health screenings for new work permit applications, renewals and changeofjob requests must be completed through a new automated online system.

This requirement includes all non‑EU foreign nationals, including those from low‑risk TB countries, who must now complete health screening for “other” job categories.

Paperbased screenings dated on or before April 30, 2026, will be accepted only if submitted by May 5, 2026.

How the New System Works

Doctors will complete the health screening directly in the automated system.

Applicants must provide identifying information during their appointment, such as:

  • Name and surname
  • ID card number
  • Passport number
  • Residence system number
  • HS code

Missing information or documentation may prevent the doctor from completing the screening.
