Finland to Extend Passport Validity to 10 Years

Key Point

  • Finland will extend the validity of adult passports from five years to 10 years, following approval of amendments to the Passport Act.

Finland Approves 10Year Passport Validity for Adults

Finland’s Ministry of the Interior has announced that the government has approved amendments to the Passport Act that will extend the validity of adult passports from five to 10 years.

According to the Ministry, the change is intended to reduce administrative burden, lower renewal frequency and align Finland with other EU and Schengen countries that already issue 10year passports.

The update will apply to Finnish citizens aged 18 and older. Passports for minors will continue to have shorter validity periods.

The Ministry will announce the implementation date once technical and administrative preparations are complete.
