Canada, Ontario Launches New Workforce Priority Stream Under OINP
- Ontario has replaced its Employer Job Offer streams with a new Workforce Priority stream, introducing revised eligibility criteria for employers and foreign workers seeking provincial nomination.
Workforce Priority Stream Under OINP
Ontario implemented regulatory changes to the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), creating a new Ontario Workforce Priority stream for foreign workers with qualifying job offers and eligible self-employed physicians.
The stream provides a pathway to permanent residence through provincial nomination.
Key Changes
Under the new framework, applicants will be assessed through one of three categories:
- Workforce Priority: TEER 0-3
- Workforce Priority: TEER 4-5
- Workforce Priority: Self-Employed Physician
Applicants must first receive an invitation to apply and obtain approval for an employment position from a participating Ontario employer.
New Work Experience Requirements
For TEER 0-3 occupations, applicants must generally meet one of the following requirements:
- Six months of consecutive full-time work experience in the offered position within the past year
- Three months of consecutive full-time work experience for recent Ontario graduates
- Two years of related work experience within the previous five years
For TEER 4-5 occupations, applicants must have at least nine months of full-time work experience in the offered position within the previous two years.
Why It Matters
The new Workforce Priority stream restructures Ontario’s provincial nomination process and establishes updated eligibility requirements for both employers and foreign nationals seeking permanent residence through the OINP.
