Canada Extends Work Permit Measures for Ukrainians

Key Point

  • Canada has extended work permit measures for Ukrainians under the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel, allowing eligible individuals to apply for permit extensions until March 31, 2027.

CUAET Extended

Canada announced an extension of work permit measures for Ukrainians who arrived under the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET).

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible Ukrainian nationals and their family members who arrived on or before March 31, 2024 — or who received a late CUAET decision allowing arrival by December 31, 2024 — may now apply to extend their open work permits until March 31, 2027.

The extension allows up to three additional years of work authorization.

Why the Change?

These measures remain temporary and are intended to support displaced Ukrainians while enabling continued participation in the Canadian labor market.
