Job Advertising Requirements for Canada
Canada introduced new job advertising requirements on April 1, 2026, for all employers submitting a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) application for low-wage positions.
As a result, employers must:
- Advertise the job for at least eight consecutive weeks within the three months before submitting the LMIA application.
- Ensure all recruitment activities occurred within the same three-month window before submission.
- Maintain at least one of the three required recruitment activities until Service Canada issues a positive or negative LMIA decision.
- Demonstrate that at least one recruitment activity specifically targeted youth, such as:
- Posting on Job Bank’s youth section or youth-focused job boards
- Partnering with schools or colleges
- Participating in youth employment programs
- Using platforms commonly used by youth
About the Requirements
These requirements reinforce the Temporary Foreign Worker Program’s expectation that employers make reasonable efforts to hire and train Canadians and permanent residents before offering a role to a temporary foreign worker.
