Canada Introduces New “30 Days or Free” Passport Guarantee

Key Point

  • Canada has launched a new “30 days or free” guarantee, offering automatic refunds if passport processing exceeds 30 business days.

Canada Introduces 30Day Passport Processing Guarantee

Canada implemented a new service standard guarantee for passport and travel document processing. Effective April 1, 2026, applicants will automatically receive a full refund of their passport fee if processing exceeds 30 business days.

How the 30-Day Processing Guarantee Works

The processing clock begins once a complete application is received and ends when the document is printed and verified; mailing time is excluded.

Who is Impacted?

The policy applies to regular applications submitted in Canada or abroad and aims to improve accountability and predictability for travelers.
