Bermuda Updates English Language Test Requirements
Key Point
- Bermuda updated its English language proficiency requirements for work permit applicants, confirming accepted tests and minimum scores.
Bermuda Updates English Language Requirements for Work Permits
Bermuda issued updated guidance on English language proficiency requirements for work permit holders whose first language is not English.
The Department of Immigration confirms that only five standardized tests will be accepted:
- IELTS (minimum 4), TOEFL iBT (42), Duolingo (75), TOEIC L&R (550) and PTE Academic (43).
Testing is mandatory unless the applicant holds a degree from an English-speaking institution. The government reminded applicants not to submit applications without valid test results meeting the required thresholds, as noncompliant submissions continue to cause delays.
Looking Ahead
Additional policy amendments are expected by May 1, 2026.
