Canada Extends Ebola-Related Immigration Restrictions Through November 2026

  • The government of Canada has extended its temporary immigration measures related to the ongoing Ebola outbreak for an additional 60 days, through Nov. 27, 2026.

Extension of Ebola-Related Immigration Restrictions

The government of Canada extended temporary immigration measures restricting entry for individuals traveling from areas impacted by the ongoing Ebola outbreak for an additional 60 days. Restrictions will remain in place until Nov. 27, 2026.

The measures were originally due to expire at the end of Sept. 2026, but were extended with the intention of helping prevent the spread of Ebola in Canada amid continued concerns about the outbreak.

Key Measures Remain in Place

Under the extended restrictions:

  • Immigration document issuance remains suspended for residents of countries considered to have a high or very high risk of Ebola exposure.
  • The affected countries currently include the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and South Sudan.
  • Individuals whose last country of residence at the time of application was one of these countries cannot travel to Canada while the measures are in effect.
  • The restrictions also apply to individuals with previously approved visas, permits or electronic travel authorizations (eTAs).

Application Processing Continues

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will continue processing affected applications but will not finalize them while the temporary measures remain in place.
