Canada Accelerates Permanent Residence Processing

Canada’s Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has begun fast‑tracking eligible permanent residence applications from workers already living and working in smaller and rural communities as part of its new In‑Canada Workers Initiative.

Who Is Eligible

According to IRCC, the accelerated review applies to work permit holders who:

  • Have applied for permanent residence through the Provincial Nominee Program, Atlantic Immigration Program, community immigration pilots, caregiver pilots or the AgriFood Pilot; and
  • Have been living in smaller Canadian communities for two years or more.

These workers are already contributing to local labor markets and supporting economic needs in regions facing persistent shortages.
