Australia Temporary Travel Restrictions for Visitor Visa Holders With Iranian Passports
Key Point
- Australia has temporarily suspended the validity of Visitor (Subclass 600) visas linked to Iranian passports for travelers outside the country under a six‑month Arrival Control Determination effective 26 March 2026.
Subclass 600 Visa Restrictions
Australia announced temporary travel restrictions affecting certain Visitor (Subclass 600) visa holders whose visas are linked to an Iranian passport.
An Arrival Control Determination took effect on 26 March 2026 and will remain in force for six months.
Impacted Individuals
According to the Department, the Determination applies to individuals who:
- are outside Australia
- hold a Visitor (Subclass 600) visa, and
- have departmental records indicating they used a passport issued by the Islamic Republic of Iran when applying for that visa
For individuals meeting these criteria, the Visitor visa is no longer in effect unless an exemption applies.
Exemptions
The Department notes that certain exemptions may allow affected individuals to travel despite the Determination.
