Dependents

Dependents include spouses and children who are eligible to apply for non-immigrant or immigrant status based on your primary status. Find more details below on how to ensure your family is included.

Do I need a separate account for a dependent?

Dependent cases should be opened within the primary visa holder’s account, a separate account for your dependent is not typically necessary. This provides the legal team with direct access to all cases related to the primary filing and allows them to prepare cases simultaneously if needed. For example, if an individual has an H-1B case opened in their account, their spouse’s H-4 should be opened as a separate case within the primary account.

If you would like your dependent to have account access, you are able to create an account profile for them.  After you create a new profile within your account you can send an “invite” to their email to provide account access. You may do this by navigating to your account profile, clicking the dependent section, and clicking the meatball menu to the right in order to send the invite to the dependents email. For more information on this, please view the Account Details FAQ

When completing dependent sections, we advise that you enter as much information as possible related to their personal information, visa status, and identification information.

If you need assistance, then Envoy Customer Experience is happy to help you add another user to your account.

How are cases opened for my dependents?

When completing the primary case questionnaire on most cases, you will notice a section labelled Dependents. If you select ‘Yes’ to the question “Will this dependent be applying with you?”, Envoy Customer Experience will be notified and will contact you to assist with opening the desired dependent case.

To ensure that Envoy Customer Experience has all the information needed, please list all family members who will require dependent sponsorship. Please note, dependents most often include a spouse and any children under the age of 21. Specifically for US-inbound cases, a dependent case will not be required if your dependent is born in the U.S.

If you are unsure whether you require a dependent case, please contact the legal team through the Communication Center, as they will be able to advise you further.

How can I open cases for my dependents?

You are not able to open dependent cases within your Envoy account. Instead, we encourage you to contact Envoy Customer Experience for assistance with opening a dependent case.

Note: Your employer will determine who is responsible for the payment of dependent cases. Based on your company’s preference, we will quote pricing details to you before opening a case. Upon your approval, Envoy Customer Experience will open the appropriate case, and you will be notified when the case is ready for you to begin working on the Questionnaire.

For more information on Envoy’s billing policies and making payment, please view the Billing & Payments FAQ.

What if I have multiple dependents?

In many instances, more than one dependent can apply together under a single dependent case filing. For example, U.S. inbound visa filings may include both spouses and children. The Questionnaire would then be completed with the primary dependent in mind, followed by other dependents whose information would be provided within the Family Members section of the Questionnaire.

You can confirm whether there are multiple dependents on an application by referring to the Supporting Documents section of the case:

  • Click into the specific dependent case
  • Scroll down to the case’s Supporting Documents section
  • Each applicant will have their own section of document placeholders

If you do not see any additional dependent names within this section, this may indicate that they have not been added, or that a separate case is warranted. If you are unsure whether the appropriate dependents are included in a case, please contact Envoy Customer Experience team for further assistance.

Is it required to open dependent cases with Envoy?

If you would like the legal team to assist with preparing a case for your dependent, then a separate case should be opened within your Envoy account. If you do not wish to proceed with opening a case through Envoy, you can still file the case yourself.

However, the legal team will only be able to advise on and send cases which are opened in your Envoy account. If you require assistance preparing a dependent filing, or if you would like the legal team to send a dependent case with a primary filing, you must elect to use Envoy’s services.

How can I add my dependents’ expiration dates?

When a case has been created for your dependents, the legal team will assist with tracking your dependent’s important expiration dates. These dates will not appear on your landing page, but they will populate into the Visa Status section of your dependent’s Account profile.

If a case is not yet opened in your account, please go ahead and update the Visa Status section yourself. To add the visa status and appropriate expiration, you will also need to ensure the appropriate documents are uploaded to this section. These documents will populate into your dependent’s Personal Documents within the Document Library, and the documents will automatically populate into any future cases.

When the legal team assists with preparing any renewal case for you or your dependents, they will review the expiration dates for your dependents and can advise if your dependents require any extension of status or legal documents. If you require any assistance updating the Expiration dates in your Envoy account, please contact Envoy Customer Experience.
