Visa Bond Requirement for FIFA

The U.S. government has announced that it will waive the visa bond requirement for certain individuals traveling to the United States for the FIFA World Cup 2026™. The waiver supports the safe, efficient entry of athletes, team personnel and eligible spectators from competing countries.

Who Qualifies for the Visa Bond Waiver

The U.S. will waive the visa bond requirement for:

  • Athletes and team members, including coaches, support staff and immediate relatives
  • Nationals of countries competing in the FIFA World Cup 2026™ who meet all U.S. visa eligibility requirements
  • Nationals of competing countries who:
    • Purchased FIFA World Cup tickets by April 15, 2026
    • Opted into the FIFA Priority Appointment Scheduling System (PASS)
    • Are otherwise fully eligible for a U.S. visitor visa

These travelers will not need to post a financial bond as part of the visa application process.

Screening and Eligibility Requirements Remain in Place

The announcement emphasizes that all visa applicants will continue to undergo standard screening and vetting procedures. A visa will only be issued if a consular officer determines that the applicant meets all requirements under U.S. law.
