Sierra Leone Enforces Mandatory Foreign National Registration

Mandatory Foreign National Registration 

On April 14, 2026, the government of Sierra Leone announced the nationwide enforcement of mandatory registration requirements for all foreign nationals residing and working in the country. 

The measure marks a stricter implementation phase of existing immigration and identification regulations, with immediate expectations for compliance. 

Scope of the Enforcement 

The enforcement applies to compliance with: 

  • NonNational Identity Cards 
  • Residence Permits 
  • Work Permits 

All foreign nationals are required to obtain and maintain valid documentation covering these categories. 

Compliance Requirements 

All non-citizens must: 

  • Obtain the required immigration and identification documents 
  • Always keep valid documentation in their possession 
  • Complete applications and renewals online via the official unified permit portal 

Failure to comply may result in: 

  • Enforcement actions 
  • Potential penalties or restrictions related to immigration status 

Application Process 

Residence and work permit applications and renewals can be completed online. Authorities have centralized the process to streamline compliance and improve accessibility.
