Republic of Korea Online Re-Entry Permits for Long-Term Visa Holders

Key Points

  • The Republic of Korea has updated its re-entry permit policy for long-term residents

Re-Entry Permit Rules Republic of Korea

Effective 23 October 2025, the Republic of Korea announced that long-term foreign residents planning to leave the country and return must now apply for a re-entry permit online before departure. This change streamlines the process and replaces the previous in-person application system:

  • Who’s affected: Foreign nationals holding long-term visas (e.g., work, study, family) who intend to leave and re-enter South Korea.
  • New process: Applications must be submitted online via the Hi Korea portal before departing from the country.
  • Exemptions: Short-term visa holders and those leaving permanently do not need a re-entry permit.
  • Why it matters: Without a valid re-entry permit, long-term visa holders may lose their visa status and be denied re-entry.
