Ireland Extends Travel Confirmation Notice

Key Point

  • Ireland extended its temporary Travel Confirmation Notice through 28 February 2026, allowing certain non‑EEA residents with recently expired IRP cards to travel during ongoing registration backlogs.

IRC Card Backlog

Ireland’s Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) has extended the Travel Confirmation Notice through 28 February 2026. This notice allows certain non‑EEA residents with recently expired Irish Residence Permit (IRP) cards to travel while their renewal applications remain in process.

The extension supports individuals affected by ongoing registration and processing delays.

Travel Confirmation Notice Extended

  • The Travel Confirmation Notice permits carriers to board eligible travelers who hold a recently expired IRP card, provided:
  • The individual is a non‑EEA national legally residing in Ireland, and
  • A renewal application was submitted before the IRP card expired.
  • The notice is now valid through 28 February 2026.

Registration and Processing Delays Continue

  • ISD notes that registration and renewal processing times remain backlogged.
  • Once approved, new IRP cards may take up to two weeks to arrive by post.

Travel Requirements

Visa‑Required Nationals

Individuals who require a visa and hold a valid, in‑date IRP card do not need a separate visa to reenter Ireland.

Non‑Visa‑Required Nationals

Individuals who do not require a visa may reenter Ireland without an IRP card or visa.

IRP Renewal Reminders

  • Renewal applications may be submitted up to 12 weeks before the IRP expiry date.
  • Early renewal does not shorten the permission period.
  • Applicants must be physically present in Ireland to renew.
  • Stamp 2 (student) applicants must wait until their course begins to submit a renewal.

Emergency Travel Situations

Individuals with urgent travel needs whose renewals have not yet been processed may contact the Registration Office through the ISD query form.
