Iceland Announces Fee Increases for Residence and Citizenship Applications

Residence and Citizenship Application Fees
Effective 1 January 2026, Iceland implemented a broad increase in government fees for residence permit and citizenship applications. The changes follow legislation approved by the Icelandic Parliament and apply to all applications submitted on or after the effective date.
In addition to the fee increases, the government has eliminated the service fee for expedited (fast‑track) processing of work‑based residence permit applications.
Citizenship Applications
- Adult citizenship application: ISK 60,000
- Child citizenship application: ISK 30,000
- Combined adult + child application: ISK 60,000 total
- Citizenship notification (adult): ISK 30,000
- Citizenship notification (child): ISK 15,000
Residence Permits – First‑Time Applications
- Work-based permit: ISK 80,000
- Study permit: ISK 70,000
- Family reunification: ISK 110,000
- Family reunification with a protected person: ISK 90,000
- Family reunification for a child: ISK 60,000
- Au pair permit: ISK 120,000
- Other residence permits: ISK 40,000
Residence Permit Renewals
- Work-based renewal: ISK 80,000
- Study renewal: ISK 70,000
- Family reunification renewal: ISK 60,000
- Family reunification with protected person: ISK 60,000
- Child family reunification renewal: ISK 40,000
- Au pair renewal: ISK 120,000
- Other renewals: ISK 40,000
Permanent Residence
- Adult permanent residence: ISK 60,000
- Child permanent residence: ISK 30,000
Provisional Residence
- Provisional residence permit: ISK 40,000
