France Revises Shortage Occupations List to Address Labor Needs

Key Points

  • France has revised its shortage occupations list, expanding roles in key sectors while removing most engineering and technician positions outside select regions

France Updates Shortage Occupations List to Reflect Labor Needs

France updated its shortage occupations list to better reflect workforce demands, region by region. The new list, published on 22 May 2025, identifies professions facing recruitment challenges based on labor shortages and the presence of non-EU foreign workers.

The update facilitates hiring third-country nationals without requiring employers to post job offers and allows certain undocumented workers in shortage occupations to apply for temporary residence permits.

Key sectors include:

  • Construction, agriculture, healthcare, hospitality and cleaning services.

This revision aligns with France’s 2024 immigration law aimed at improving workforce integration. The list will continue to be updated annually to adapt to evolving economic needs.
