China Launches Nationwide Online Foreign Accommodation Registration
- China has launched a nationwide online accommodation registration system for foreign nationals staying in private residences or other non-hotel accommodations, effective Sept. 21, 2026.
Nationwide Online Foreign Accommodation Registration
China’s National Immigration Administration (NIA) introduced a nationwide online accommodation registration service for foreign nationals residing or staying in accommodations other than hotels.
The new system took effect on Sept. 21, 2026.
Key Changes
Under Chinese immigration regulations, foreign nationals staying in private residences or other non-hotel accommodations must register their place of stay with local authorities within 24 hours of arrival. The new online platform allows this requirement to be completed electronically rather than exclusively in person.
Foreign nationals or their hosts can now complete accommodation registration through:
- The NIA government website.
- The “NIA 12367” mobile application.
- The “NIA 12367” WeChat mini program.
- The Alipay mini program.
In-Person Registration Remains Available
The existing registration process through local public security authorities will remain available. The NIA confirmed that online registrations will have the same legal effect as registrations completed in person.
