CDC Extends Ebola-Related Travel Restrictions for Certain Travelers From the DRC, Uganda and South Sudan

  • CDC extended its order restricting the introduction of certain individuals who have recently been present in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Uganda or South Sudan through September 11, 2026.

Ebola-Related Travel Restrictions

On August 17, 2026, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) published a Federal Register notice extending its Ebola-related travel restrictions for an additional 30 days. The order took effect August 12, 2026, and remains in place through September 11, 2026, unless modified or rescinded earlier.

Background on Ebola-Related Restrictions

CDC previously imposed restrictions on certain travelers from the DRC, Uganda and South Sudan in response to the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the region.

What Changed?

The order continues existing restrictions without significant changes and applies to certain non-U.S. citizens who have been present in the DRC, Uganda or South Sudan within the previous 21 days.

The order does not apply to:

  • U.S. citizens and U.S. nationals;
  • Certain U.S. government and military personnel; and
  • Individuals who qualify for approved humanitarian, public health or other exceptions.

What’s Next?

The order remains effective through September 11, 2026, while the CDC continues monitoring conditions and conducting a public health risk assessment. The agency may extend, modify or terminate the restrictions based on developments in the region.
