Canada Pauses Intake for Home Care Worker Immigration Pilots

Key Point

  • Canada has paused new applications for the Home Care Worker Immigration Pilots due to high demand and will not reopen intake in March 2026 as previously planned

Home Care Worker Immigration Pilot

Canada has announced that it will pause application intake for the Home Care Worker Immigration Pilots, effective December 19, 2025. The pause allows the government to focus on processing the large volume of already‑submitted applications. Demand for these pathways has consistently exceeded available program spaces.

About the Home Care Worker Program

The pilots, designed to provide permanent residence pathways for home child-care providers and home support workers, reached capacity quickly after they opened. IRCC confirmed that the programs will not reopen in March 2026, contrary to earlier expectations. The pause aligns with Canada’s 2026–2028 Immigration Levels Plan. The plan prioritizes clearing existing backlogs while ensuring the country continues to meet labor needs in the care sector.

Looking Ahead

IRCC emphasized that it will continue processing existing applications but will not accept new ones “until further notice.”

The department noted that the pause is necessary to maintain program integrity and manage processing times effectively.
