Germany Tightens Naturalization Requirements

  • Germany has revised its Citizenship Act, eliminating the option for naturalization after three years and reinforcing integration requirements 

Five-Year Residency Rule Now Standard for Naturalization

Germany changed its Citizenship Act to improve integration measures. As a result, all applicants for citizenship must reside in Germany for at least five years before applying, replacing the previous three-year fast-track option. Other requirements, such as German language proficiency and financial independence, remain in place.
