Georgia Tightens Visa-Free Entry Rules

Georgia has issued a statement clarifying recent amendments to its entry regulations, which were adopted on 17 April 2025. These changes affect nationals of certain countries who previously could enter Georgia without a visa if they held a visa or residence permit from a Gulf state.

Key Updates

  • The amendments aim to tighten entry requirements to curb illegal migration.
  • Before the changes, travelers with a Gulf-issued visa or residence permit could enter Georgia regardless of the visa’s validity period.
  • Under the new rule, visa-free travel will be available only to those with a multiple-entry visa or residence permit valid for at least one year at the time of entry.
  • This restriction applies to citizens of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ghana, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Yemen, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
