Finland Partially Pauses Decisions on Iranian Asylum Applications

Key Point

  • Finland has temporarily paused part of its decision‑making on asylum applications from Iranian nationals while it reassesses the security situation in Iran.

Iranian Asylum Applications

Finland confirmed that it has partly suspended decisions on Iranian asylum cases due to major changes in Iran’s security environment. Officials must update their country‑of‑origin information before continuing case reviews. The temporary pause includes the following elements:

  • Applies only to cases requiring updated information on current conditions in Iran.
  • The government is reassessing protection needs in light of recent protests and the government’s use of force.
  • Around 100 cases are affected by the suspension.
  • The pause follows standard EU practice when a country’s security environment changes substantially.
