Denmark Temporary Ban on Nurse Authorization Permits
Key Point
- Denmark has paused residence permits for foreign nurses seeking Danish authorization from October 2025 to December 2026
Healthcare Migration Policy
From 7 October 2025 to 31 December 2026, Denmark will suspend residence permits for foreign nationals seeking Danish authorization as nurses.
The Danish Patient Safety Authority has set the application quota at zero, meaning no new permits will be granted during this period, including for accompanying family members, unless the main applicant received a permit before 7 October 2025.
The policy aims to balance the number of foreign healthcare professionals with Denmark’s projected workforce needs. Applicants affected by the quota will receive a full refund of their application fee.
