Canada Updates Medical Exam Requirements for Temporary Residents

Key Point

  • Canada revised its Immigration Medical Exam (IME) country list effective November 3, 2025, adding and removing several countries for temporary resident applicants

Immigration Medical Exam Requirement Changes

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) updated its list of countries that trigger mandatory medical exams for temporary residents staying in Canada for more than six months.

Applicants who have lived in or visited Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay or Venezuela for six or more consecutive months in the past year must now complete an IME. Conversely, Canada no longer requires individuals who have recently traveled to Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iraq, Latvia, Lithuania or Taiwan to undergo an IME.

These changes apply only to applications submitted on or after November 3, 2025.

Applications submitted before that date follow the previous country list. IRCC advises applicants to review the updated requirements to avoid delays in processing.
