Sweden Resumes Residence and Work Permit Processing in Pakistan

Key Points

  • Sweden now handles residence and work permits in Pakistan, allowing applicants to complete formalities in Islamabad

Overview

Sweden resumed residence and work permit processing in Pakistan on 9 April 2025. Applicants needing biometric registration, passport checks, or interviews can now complete these procedures at the Swedish embassy in Islamabad instead of traveling to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

These changes apply to Pakistani citizens and residents instructed by the Swedish Migration Agency to visit a Swedish embassy for these formalities. However, individuals applying for a Schengen visa for short-term visits must still submit their applications to VFS Global in designated cities, with processing handled by the Swedish embassy in Bangkok.
