Foreign Nationals Management Information System
Nepal issued a public notice announcing the rollout of the Foreign Nationals Management Information System (FNMIS)/ The new digital platform will record and monitor the entry, stay and activities of foreign nationals in Nepal. The system is being introduced in phases, with the first phase already active.
Phase 1
Applies to:
- Foreign nationals staying in star‑rated hotels within Kathmandu Valley
Requirements:
- Travelers must register in FNMIS upon arrival using the Department of Immigration’s mobile app
- If a traveler does not self‑register, the hotel/stay provider must complete the registration
Phase 2 – Effective March 1, 2026
Mandatory registration expands to:
- All-star hotels nationwide
- Airlines
- Travel companies
- Money exchange services
Looking Ahead
The government plans to extend FNMIS requirements to:
- All hotels and guest houses
- Additional public and private institutions
- Other accommodation and service providers
Details will be announced as each phase is launched.
Registration Process
Foreign nationals can register by:
- Downloading the Department of Immigration mobile application, and
- Entering passport and visa details to create a digital record
