Malaysia Extends Pilot Phase of 1:3 Internship Policy
Key Point
- Malaysia announced an extension of the pilot phase of the 1:3 Internship Policy, moving the end date from 31 December 2025 to 31 March 2026.
Three‑Month Extension of Pilot Phase
Malaysia confirmed that the pilot phase of the 1:3 Internship Policy has been extended to 31 March 2026. The policy, introduced on 15 January 2025 under the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA), links expatriate hiring to local talent development by requiring employers to offer three structured, paid internship placements for every one expatriate hired.
As a result of the extension, employers will have additional time to:
- Familiarize themselves with the policy requirements
- Plan and structure internship placements
- Activate and onboard the MyNext platform (www.mynext.my)
- Ensure compliance before full implementation
During the extended pilot period, TalentCorp will continue to support employers through guidance, clarification, and hands‑on assistance to strengthen internship pathways and industry‑education collaboration.
According to ESD, all companies registered with ESD and MDEC have been notified directly via email with instructions on onboarding the MyNext platform and updating internship details.
